Estate Sale Sourcing for Resellers
How to evaluate estate-sale inventory when there is more volume, more variety, and often more competition.
Go in with category priorities
Know the departments or item types you want to inspect first. High-interest areas may be picked quickly, so a plan matters more than browsing every room in order.
Look for groups and collections
Related items can be easier to identify and may offer better buying leverage. Evaluate whether the collection is best sold together or separated before paying a collection-level price.
Check completeness carefully
Estate-sale items may have been stored for years. Look for missing manuals, cords, lids, pieces, cases, and accessories that affect resale value.
Understand discount timing
Some sales reduce prices later, but waiting can mean losing the strongest inventory. Base the decision on the item and margin in front of you, not the possibility of a future discount.
Leave room for research-heavy items
Older, unusual, and collectible items can be valuable, but they can also consume a lot of research time. Buy them when the upside justifies the uncertainty.
