The short answer

GrimLister combines eBay sales information with the purchase costs and business expenses you record. Review item-level profit, add missing costs after a sale, batch edit sourcing details, and export year-end records for your bookkeeping and tax preparation.

Keep item economics separate from the headline sale price

A sale has more moving parts than the amount in the title. The item view brings together proceeds, available eBay fees, shipping label costs, refunds, purchase cost, and item-specific expenses. Missing costs should be completed before you rely on the result.

Shared expenses belong in the broader business view. A software subscription or a shared supply purchase is not automatically divided across individual items. This distinction helps you understand why an item result and the total business result can differ.

Catch up on costs without rebuilding your inventory

Use Sales & Profit to add a purchase cost and source after an item sells. Select multiple sold items when they share a source or cost. The batch editor supports the same cost for each item or splitting a total evenly across the selection.

Only use an even split when it is a reasonable record of that purchase. Keep the original receipt or supporting notes and ask your accountant about the appropriate treatment of mixed-value lots.

Keep the supporting records nearby

Connected sales data reduces manual entry, but it cannot know what you paid at a garage sale unless you enter that information.

  • Check sold items missing a purchase cost.
  • Record business expenses and retain the underlying evidence.
  • Review shipping charges, refunds, and unusual adjustments.
  • Confirm the reporting period before comparing totals.
  • Separate estimates from completed sales and settled costs.

Prepare a cleaner year-end handoff

Year-End Statements include summary figures and supporting records, with PDF and Excel exports. Review missing costs and reconcile the records before sharing them with your accountant.

GrimLister organizes your records; it does not file a tax return or determine which deductions you personally qualify for. Your accountant can apply the appropriate accounting method and tax treatment to the underlying records.

Common questions

Can I enter a cost after the item sells?

Yes. In Sales & Profit, add the purchase cost and source, then save. Item profit updates using the available sale information and recorded costs.

Are GrimLister reports a filed tax return?

No. They are bookkeeping and preparation records. Review them for completeness and use a qualified tax professional for your filing decisions.
